Can't keep anything....

Postby Tom » Fri May 26, 2017 7:21 pm

I traded off my Police Positive for a S&W model 19-4 Nickel plated .357 I ordered a bullet mold for it today, but Midway was out of handles. I suppose I'll just use the handles from my 9mm mold.

Would like to see a picture of that! I like my old Police Positive but the Model 19 just might be my favorite Smith ever.

As a Colt guy that D frame Police Positive wouldn't have left my hands but the model 19 is about the finest revolver Smith ever made. Congratulations

It seems as if all of the older S&W revolvers have gotten proud. In my part of the country, $500+/- would be a good deal on a 90% model 19.

I should have bought the Smiths that I really wanted before the prices went up.

All the old wheel guns have sky rocketed. Of course, Colt is out of the ball park, Smiths are outrageous, even old Six series Rugers are demanding a premium. Just goes to show you there is a market for quality revolvers. The new Smiths suck, Colt only has one DA revolver, and even the new Rugers are not what they used to be. MIM parts, and apparently they hire anybody off the street to assemble them. I remember when you could buy a 19 for $200. Guess those days are gone forever.

That may be the going rate around here as well. Time seems to pass quicker than it used to and I don't seem to be able to keep up.

I pay attention to things that apply to me...and K frame Smiths haven't applied to my wallet in quite a while! I finally gave up on ever finding Speed Sixes-it's too hard to get parts for them anymore.

I think older guys feel like they went way up. BUT in 1973 when a Ruger 357 new was somewhere around $100 and something I paid for it. I made $2.11 a hour in the mill so that was not so cheap sounding if you think back. That was 1/2 a pay after taxes. and I had the wife and 1 kid to feed.

It's a beauty. Locks up tight. It has a fairly heavy DA pull, but SA it's very light. I have yet to take it to the range, as the chemo keeps me feeling like crap 3 weeks out of 4.... It's the first Smith Revolver I've owned. There's a guy over on Cast Boolits Swapping & selling that has a couple K frames for sale....

Well Tom, it shouldn't be your last! I really like S&W revolvers and currently have 7 but I do not have a model 19 which is on my bucket list.

I know that you will enjoy it. Just try to get to the range during that one good week out of four. Going out and shooting would have to make you feel better!!!

I hope that you continue to feel better and stronger every week and wish you a full recovery my friend.
