Here I go again

Postby zippo9 » Mon Aug 14, 2017 6:29 am

Started sorting brass last night. Haven't reloaded anything in almost three years. I didn't realize it had been that long. Gonna be like starting all over again. Standby for questions. :D

Three years? Wow! I reload at least once a month, sometimes 4 times a month! Just loaded up 500 9mm 115 gr XTPs yesterday. Gonna start on some .45 next weekend. Seems like I reload more than I shoot!

I haven't reloaded in months. Almost entirely because of the move. Still haven't fully set up my reloading room at the new digs. When I get going I usually load at least once a week in modest quantities for a days shooting

I think I need to do what you do, Dframe. Last time I was in my "reloading mode" I reloaded every piece of empty brass I had. Hence it took until now to need more ammo. Problem with that is it's to long of time between sessions and now I have to relearn everything. It also doesn't allow for experimitting with different loads. I have several different cans of powder that I don't remember what, specifically, I planned to do with them. Oh well, the adventure continues.

Lord, if I reloaded every piece of empty brass I had I would go broke buying components! I got 5 gallon buckets full of .45, .308, .223, etc. from when I worked at the range. But, I will confess to having a healthy supply loaded up of every caliber I load for. I don't think I have less than 1000 rounds of any caliber, except maybe .44 Special, usually keep about 500 rounds of it loaded. I probably got close to 10,000 rounds of .223 loaded up. About 5000 9mm, 3000 .45s, etc. I am surprised my old house floor don't give way.

Me too, glad that you are still around. Actually, I am glad that we are all still around. Not being able to easily post pics has kind of put a damper on things.

Seeing how now I'm retired, I do more loading than shooting. It has it's drawbacks, because I run out of cartridge boxes. Still weak, so I'll load 50 or so 9mm rounds and call it a day. If it's not too hot, I'll cast a pile of bullets for the .357 or .44 or whatever, but I'm running out of bullet boxes. I already have two 50 cal military ammo cans full of 9mm and .45 bullets ready to size and lube, as much as I can pick up without hurting myself, as well as two same size cans full of cleaned and sized brass. I don't even have a .45 anything right now. When I go to the indoor range to shoot I most of the time police the brass, coming home with several pounds of miscellaneous cases. Those I can use get cleaned and sized, inspected and sorted. The others get put in the tub to be sold or traded to the scrap metal guy.
